Welcome To Loughborough Folk Dance Club, American Contra and English Ceilidh Dance
The club is open to all who enjoy traditional English Ceilidh dancing, Irish, American and Scottish social dancing.
English Ceilidh (with Ceilidh being pronounced ‘kaylee’) is a more riotous and eclectic variation on English Folk, Barn or Country dancing. However, these days when people think of a Ceilidh, they think of a fun filled night of energetic dancing, good music and great company!
The form of Ceilidh dances is basically simple. The quality of Ceilidh dance is very much dependent on the band and caller.
We meet every Monday evening at 7:30pm to 10:00pm except during the summer, easter and Christmas holidays at St.Peters Community Centre, Storer Road, Loughborough LE11 5EQ (map).
The cost is £3 per adult (first evening free) and everybody is welcome including children.
No previous experience necessary as all Ceilidh dances are taught before dancing, no need to book and no partner necessary, just turn up.
Dress code is casual and we recommend you wear comfortable, flat(ish) shoes.
There’s no bar but own drinks welcome and tea and biscuits are provided free during the break.
There’s free parking at the venue. See FAQs page for public transport options.
